Hi,
I’m considering Event Espresso as the booking system for our medical training centre.
I wonder whether it will allow for the following functions:

1a) Create a WP username and password for customers not previously registered on the website.
1b) Allow users to use their existing username and password for course bookings if they had previously registered

2a) Assign a user group to users once registered for a course (ie Course 1, Course2 etc)
2b) Redirect users to online prereading material, downloads etc automatically at the end of the booking process. This material would be usergroup restricted (see 2a) so that only those who have booked the course can access the relevant material.

3) Some of our courses have for instance spots for 2 doctors and 6 nurses. I saw that EE can display the number of available spots in a course. Can the remaining spots be broken down into categories (ie “1 spot for a doctor and 4 for nurses available”?

Many thanks in advance, Christian

Hi Christian,

Whilst Event Espresso could possibly be used in this situation you would more than likely need to do some custom work to it.

1a) Create a WP username and password for customers not previously registered on the website.

Not by default: Event Espresso doesn’t create users in the system. One of the developers, Seth, created a function to drop into the Custom Files addon/theme that will create a user on registration, based on email address though.

1b) Allow users to use their existing username and password for course bookings if they had previously registered

I think you are referring to only allowing logged in users to register? If so then yes, the WP User Integration add on allows you to offer discounts and show events to users who are logged in.

2a) Assign a user group to users once registered for a course (ie Course 1, Course2 etc)

Not this is not possible with the default plugin. You would need a third party system and probably modify the cvode mentioned above to add the user to a certain Role as by default it adds them to the Subscriber role.

2b) Redirect users to online prereading material, downloads etc automatically at the end of the booking process. This material would be usergroup restricted (see 2a) so that only those who have booked the course can access the relevant material.

Not a redirect as such but you could modify the Thank you page or template to display links to the content. Using a third party plugin such as S2Members or Members by Justin Tadlock, you could only show content to X group. However due to above limitations you would need to custom code something where the users are allocated to the appropriate role.

3) Some of our courses have for instance spots for 2 doctors and 6 nurses. I saw that EE can display the number of available spots in a course. Can the remaining spots be broken down into categories (ie “1 spot for a doctor and 4 for nurses available”?

Unfortunately this isnt a current feature of Event Espresso.
