Hi,

I am trying to apply a surcharge to my customers upon checkout…see https://eventespresso.com/topic/new-default-price/

In brainstorming other ways to apply this I have come up with a new option: To add a question within the registration form where customers can check if they have paid or still need to pay this fee. See screenshot below

Is there a way to make it so that when the customer clicks on the first option, a $15 surcharge gets added in checkout?

Hi Cindra,

You can’t currently charge an additional fee based on a response to a custom question.

If this is an annual fee, then you might consider creating a separate event to collect that fee or using a membership plugin to collect that fee and then place the shortcodes for certain event categories on a protected page from the membership plugin.

That will allow only members to register for those events.

Hey Lorenzo,

Is charging an additional fee based on a response to a custom question something that is do-able if I pay someone to custom code for me?

I do not want a membership based site.

So let’s talk about the first option you gave which was creating a separate event to collect the fee. If I were to do this, is there a way to automatically put this event in everyone’s cart? Or would the customer have to seek out the event and add it?

Hi Cindra,

It is likely possible for someone to custom develop a system to allow you to create questions that have prices attached to them. We actually did this with Event Espresso 3 and the Price Modifier add-on. That add-on is not available for EE4 and is in beta for EE3. We do not have plans to release it. However, if you contact one of our Pro-Developers, they will likely have access to the add-on and can help you create something for EE4.

Events cannot be added to the cart automatically. You can create multiple ticket types in a single event and require that one be purchased though.

Thanks Jonathan. I will try this. And if I am not satisfied I will contact one of the pro-developers.
