Company Name in Emails

Hey guys, in the past, our company name would be included in all emails sent. For example, you open up Outlook and you have a new email. On that email BEFORE you EVER open the email, you see WHO the email is from AND the Subject. So if you are looking at your most recent 25 new emails all in a column, you see WHO they emails are from AND the subject so then you know if you want to open the email or not.

CURRENTLY, Event espresso emails are just showing up as our email address. SO, for the WHO, instead of being our company name, it is showing our email address. That doesn’t look near as appealing. So How can I make sure the email is FROM our company name

Hi Jarred,

Your asking about ‘formatted’ email address, which look like:

Example Name <example@email.com>

Those will show the name in email clients like above.

By default EE does not use formatted email addresses anymore, we did have them enabled by default but found that various mail servers had issues with them so we switched to using just the email address.

You can change this back but you’ll need to edit each template in the message system to do it. So as an example to change the Registration Approved email, go to:

Event Espresso -> Messages -> Defautl Message Templates -> Registration Approved -> Edit Registrant.

Change the shortcode used in the FROM section to have _FORMATTED at the end before the closing bracket.

So if it’s using the default of [CO_EMAIL], use [CO_FORMATTED_EMAIL]

Now save.

That will pull the ‘Organization Name’ and ‘Primary Contact Email’ values from General Settings and build out the formatted address as mentioned.

Something you’ll need to be aware of is message have multiple ‘contexts’ and in the case of Registration Approved, you can have Event Admin, Primary Registrant and Registrant. Each of those contexts can be edited independently so for Reg Approved you actually change 3 templates.

At the top you’ll see a dropdown, select Event Admin and click ‘Switch Recipient’.

You’ll now load the Reg Approved ‘Event Admin’ context. Again make the same change you did above.

Switch to ‘Registrant’ and lick the switch recipient button again, same change.

For more info on this see: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/messages-system-working-with-message-contexts/

It’s important you understand these ‘contexts’ as it ties into you recent threads.

Also note, if you have any custom templates you’ll need to edit all of those, including their contexts, to use the new shortcode in the from field. You’ll see all of your custom templates in the ‘Custom Message Templates’ tab at the top.

I recommend changing just one and testing the email to confirm your mail server has no issues using them before you switch everything over.
