Changing features or removing features in the UI

I am wondering if the full version will allow me to change some of the field headings like Qty and Price?

Also can I remove the date and time text with the non-decaf version?

Thx
Moira

Hi Moira,

Event Espresso is translation ready so the messaging can be changed via a gettext filter:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-change-wording-with-poedit/#custom-function

What kind of events are you wanting to host?

The reason I ask is Event Espresso needs a start date and end date for event event though that can be hidden on the actual event pages.

Hi Lorenzo

I am planning to use the plugin for 2 purposes on a non-profit website. One is their annual convention and one is their membership. You can see the membership page mocked up here:
http://stage16.infantmentalhealth.org/events/become-a-member
The word Qty isn’t really useful as a header for the selection column, plus they want to use Fee rather than Price.
I looked at the article, that you suggested, but the plugin that it talks about has not been updated in 2 years. :\

Hi Moira,

You won’t need a plugin if you use the custom function to change the text.

Thanks Josh that is what i am trying to understand but still do not.

What is it that you’re trying to understand? How to use the translation function maybe?
If so, if you take a look at line 9 or the function, you’ll see this:

'Register' => 'Sign up',

That line of code will make it so anywhere that Event Espresso normally outputs the text “Register”, it will be replaced with “Sign up”.

So earlier you mentioned that you wanted to change “Price” to make it say “Fee”. So you’d start with the example code, then your line 9 will be:
'Price' => 'Fee',

IOW I need to write PHP code to make the changes yes?

Can this be done by event or will it be across the board on all events for this website?

Using PHP is only one of the three options listed on the documentation page for changing text. The other two options involve making edits to a translation file or using a plugin.

When you make a translation edit it affects every text string on the site, so yes, the change will be across the board.

The plugin has not been updated for 2 years.
And across the board does not work for both types of use. :\
thanks

The plugin has not been updated for 2 years.

The way in which Quick Localization translations are applied to the site has not changed, WP has not altered how this is done within core, so if the plugin suits its purpose why would it need an update?

If you prefer a ‘newer’ plugin there are alternatives such as:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/loco-translate/

However they are a little more complicated to use than Quick Localization.

And across the board does not work for both types of use. :\

If you want changes for specific events you will need a custom solution, a developer can create a custom function for you that can alter the text based on event meta data for example, however changing the text for specific events is not available out of the box and will need to be done via PHP.
