Can't type in registration form in Firefox/IE

Version of WordPress: 3.8.1
Version of Event Espresso: 3.1.36.4 (addons: Calendar, Members add-on, multi-event registration, recurring events, social media, ticketing)

I am unable to type in the registration form in Firefox and Internet Explorer. Everything is working fine in Chrome and Safari, but most of our patrons are older and predominantly use IE and Firefox, so those need to work. The problem didn’t resolve when I updated Event Espresso to the latest version.

Here is the registration page: http://www.bachinbaltimore.org/event-registration/

Hi Caroline,

Is it happening on a newer version of those browsers? We can only support browser versions one version behind the current version. More info: https://eventespresso.com/faqs/supported-web-browsers/

Also, there may be a theme function that is causing the issue. You can check for this by first switching to the TwentyFourteen theme (or any other theme from the wordpress.org theme repository, all of these themes pass a thorough code quality review before inclusion.)

Hi Jonathan, thanks for your reply. I’m currently using the most current version of Firefox and it’s not working in that. As for the theme, I would really rather not change it if at all possible, since we have a custom theme and changing it would mess up the design of our whole site.

Hi Caroline,

I understand. You can use a plugin like Theme Test Driveto do the test without affecting what your visitors see.

I tested the 2014 theme and while the issue did go away, it’s just not an option for us to switch to a new theme, we had our current one designed specifically for us recently and I really don’t want to have to deal with re-configuring an entirely new theme from scratch. Thanks anyway for your help.

Hi,

Do you have a social media plugin active? Or is the social media done via the theme?

Basically, there is a script that is trying to connect to Facebook, and while it is trying to connect, it blocks the form. Once it fails to connect, approx. 45 seconds after page load, the form becomes active again.

How to resolve?

You could disable the social media plugin or swap it for another one.

If the theme is causing it then your main option is to contact the theme developer and ask them to fix the issue (maybe by pushing the script further down the load order list as it is currently loading in the header).

I’m sorry Caroline. I wasn’t meaning that you need to change themes entirely. This was only for testing to see if there is an issue with the theme. Please see Dean’s response above.

Hi Jonathan and Dean,

I deactivated the Event Espresso social media plugin, and now things seem to be working again! Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Caroline,

That means there must be a compatibility issue with the theme and our Social Media add-on. I would still recommend contacting the developer. This could cause more issues in the future with other plugins that you may use.
