We upgraded to Event Espresso 3.1.30.P, but for some reason when we go into Event Overview, we can select our Event and open it, but when we click ‘view event.’ to preview our Event we cannot see anything in our Events page, (see the link below) the page is empty?

http://college-of-practical-homeopathy.com/events.html?ee=6

All it says is [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] on the page, it is not populated and is empty. Also because of this, all my categories are not working. like

[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”dday_cat1″]

Hi there,

It’s likely the old template files in /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates that’s breaking this. When you update the plugin, the files in /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates should be updated too. If there are aren’t customizations in there, there is no need for those files to be copied over to /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates.

I am not sure if we have got it right (what you said), but I uploaded files from the new event-espresso\templates\ file into wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates. But there has been no change – Is this what you meant? please advise us specifically, to amend the situation?

Hi,

Can you either go to Event Espresso > Template Settings and clickthe button there to rename the uploads/espresso folder or rename the folder manually via FTP.

By renaming the folder it will force the plugin to ignore any files there and create a fresh empty directory, and to use the default templates in the plugin.

Let us know if that resolves the issue for you or not.

Dean, thanks for your help, we did as you instructed and renamed the uploads/espresso folder, but nothing has changed. We really need to resolve this issue as our event promotions have started and our event page is empty and not populated with our info. Please help?

I’m wondering if this issue is being cause by the .html being appended to the end of the URL’s. That’s not something I typically see on a WordPress installation. You could try resetting the permalinks, you might also try creating a new page and place the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcode on it, then select the new page as the Main registration page in Event Espresso>General settings, under Page settings.

Josh,

Thanks for getting back to us very helpful, we used the .html on all our WordPress pages and posts as we transitioned from a static html site into a WordPress site, and this was set up to keep our urls friendly with Google.

We have been using Event Espresso since 2009 and we have never had any trouble with the .html appendage throughout all the upgrades. Everything has always worked fine with it. Perhaps in the upgrade something was changed because since we removed it (as you suggested), we did eventually manage to view our Events page.

So both links below now work but, we now have a host of other issues, which seem to have gone wrong (see no. 1) below…)

http://college-of-practical-homeopathy.com/events/ (works)
http://college-of-practical-homeopathy.com/events/?ee=6 (works)

1) The Event Post that was generated for this event, the link does not display like it used to. We can edit it ok, but when we try to view the page link which should be

http://college-of-practical-homeopathy.com/events/cph-discovery-day-invitation (we have now removed the .html)

There is something wrong, with the url because now, it just diverts back to our homepage.

2) None of the shortcodes for this event work any more – What has happened to them?

[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”dday_cat_1″] (dont work)

[SINGLEEVENT single_event_id=”dday_invite1″] (dont work)

Instead what shows up where we put them is something like ‘no events available’, whereas in the past they used to display without a problem.

We are basically not getting the benefit of Event Espresso like we used to. Everything used to work great in the past, even when we had .html on our pages, it all seemed to work better than it does now.

Is there anything more we can do to get Event Espresso functioning on our site like it used do.

Please help us figure out how to view our Event posts again and get all our short codes to function again.!!

Thanks for your help.

Hi there,

If you’re using the custom posts types feature, it does reserve the ‘events’ page slug, which will cause problems if there’s a page on the site that has the same slug.

You can change the slug for the custom post types feature by editing line 34 of includes/admin-files/custom_post_type.php. After you save the changes, you’ll seed to flush the rewrite rules by going to the WordPress>Settings>Permalinks and saving the permalinks settings.

With the event category shortcode, the first thing to check is make sure that you have the latest hotfix version, there was something wrong with the category shortcode on an earlier .30 version. As an alternative, you can also use:
[EVENT_LIST category_identifier=your_category_identifier]

instead.

With the single event shortcode, the event_identifier parameter needs to exactly match the unique event identifier. The shortcode button in the event editor will give you the shortcode that you can copy and paste:

Josh,

Hey, thanks for your patience and time, the information you gave us has been very helpful.

We have been able to get everything working again, and it appears to be all back to normal now.

thanks!
