I’m using another plugin (User Role Editor) to customize my user’s access levels, and I’ve got a user (base WP role: “editor”) whom I’d like to also make an Espresso Master Admin. However, when I attempt to do this, my user loses the ability to list, create, and edit posts. I’ve attempted to update Event Espresso and its add-ons to see if this fixes the problem, but when I try I get the message “Update package not available”. On my Plugins page, anything with an update available says “There is an automatic update for Event Espresso available but your Site License Key has not been set. Please go to the Event Espresso General Settings page to set your Site License Key for this addon.” As my organization contracted our initial website development to someone else, they purchased, installed, and entered a license key on our behalf. There is a license key entered in the box under “General Settings”, but apparently this key does not permit updates of any kind. Without paying for another Site License Key, how am I supposed to update Event Espresso and its addons?

Hi Laura,

Do you have a current license? You will need on in order to do the update. If you license has expired, you can purchase a new one then enter the key. You will then be able to do the updates.

I’m not familiar with User Role Editor, but in Roles and Permissions you can grant access to more capabilities by editing the Role under Event Espresso > User Roles.

I’ve found the Event Espresso > User Roles, and it looks like it should work, but I have a problem with it. Because the “Espresso Master Admin” appears to override the WPCore roles, I need to change the role’s capabilities. But if I want to give multiple people the “Espresso Master Admin”, but have some with WPCore “Author” and others with “Editor”, it looks like I can’t do that. I also don’t want all “Editor”s or “Author”s to have “Espresso Master Admin” – just some. Is there a way to do this?

Hi Laura,

If you have the Roles and Permissions Basic and/or Pro and you use the User Role Editor, you can create new roles that have Author and EE Master admin or Author and EE Event Manager as it allows creation of new roles types and does recognise the EE custom capabilities.

I havent tested it out but I cannot see a reason it wouldnt work, you would just need to be careful about what you create and what access you give to people. I would also recommend backing your database up before doing this.

…So how does one access the Event Espresso capabilities? I created a test user and a role that is supposed to do what I need. I gave my test user this new role and logged in, but I cannot access the Event Espresso management tools. What capability do I need to give a role in order for it to allow users to add/edit events, manage attendees, etc.?

Hi,

OK, so excluding User Role Editor for a second, if you have Roles and Permissions Basic and Pro, you can create a user with the role Event Manager.

To allow the event manager access to things, in the User Permissions menu you need to change the Minimum Page Permissions from Admin to Event Manager.

So lets say I wanted Event Managers to see events only, then I would just change the Event//Attendee Listings Page option to Event Manager and update.

With User Role Editor what I would do is create a new role, I called mine AuthorEventManager, but Im sure you can think of something better.

The role is a duplicate of the Author role, but then I edited it and allowed it that have the Event Manager capabilities (see the bottom of this image http://d.pr/i/p9XQ).

Now when that user logs in,m they will have Author capabilities and Event Manager capabailities, but only what the admin has defined for them http://d.pr/i/zELQ
