You have the classic Event Espresso (EE) application — selling classes. Using CATEGORIES allows you to employ simple SHORTCODES to display multiple calendars that just show the classes from that category.
Yes, EE will help you create Event Posts into your WordPress directly from the event creation interface.
A generic registration page is not how EE works. Although once you start working with it you may find a way to get it to look the way you want. In EE, a customers picks a Class that you are selling from a list (typically with short descriptions) or from a Calendar. Once they decide to buy it, Registration is a function that pops up and is tied to that EVENT (class). But if you buy the Multi-Event Registration option, you might find that using the ADD TO CART features, you will get the type of behavior that you may be looking for.
On the home page, there are lots of ways to interest people in your classes. Shortcodes can do this, but you need to lay it out in a strategic way and create what works. Most of us use the SIDE BAR WordPress Widget area to show off EE Events, using the built-in widgets. These tend to appear on all the pages that use 2-columns of content display.
EE has a lot of power for configuring what you need to display in unique and creative ways.
