I need a compatible WordPress theme that works with Event Espresso. I know that most of Yoo Themes, Woo Themes, Pagelines, Studiopress are compatible. However, I do not like most of the designs. I had a theme that I got off Themeforest and it would not display all the Event Espresso shortcodes. |
Hi Jeff, If you really like that Themeforest theme, it can probably be fixed by ripping out the non-WordPress coding standards compliant code. Unlike the themes at ThemeForest, all the themes in the WordPress.org theme repo go through a rigorous review before being added to the free themes repository. It might be worth a few minutes to check through there. If you’re looking for other commercial theme vendors, I can suggest looking at what these shops have to offer: TheThemeFoundry.com, themesupply.co, elmastudio.de, and press75.com |

Hi Josh, I don’t mind paying for a theme – I just don’t want to pay for a theme (like I did for the Themeforest theme) only to find that the theme had bad coding and would not work with event espresso. What does that mean – ripping out the non-Wordpress coding standards compliant coding? I am not a developer and do not know much about that kind of stuff. I’ll check out those other suggestions that you sent me. Like I said – if the theme has good coding and will work with Event Espresso – then I don’t mind paying for a theme. I just don’t want to pay for one – only to find it won’t work with event espresso. I just like themes that are customizable and themeforest seems to have themes that are easy to customize and that let you customize the way you want. I noticed with Woo Themes – I can’t customize those exactly how I want to – without coding or developing – which is not my forte. Thanks, Erica |
Hi Erica, The issue that we typically see on some of the ThemeForest themes where it can break shortcodes is where the theme dev has created their own batch of Shortcodes, specifically shortcodes that create columns. Getting column content to line up nice can be tricky, so there’s a method that a lot of these themes use to disable the standard WordPress auto formating to compensate for columns that don’t always line up. The problem is it can break other WP plugin’s shortcodes that are expecting the standard WordPress format functions to be working. I recommend checking out this blog post for a more detailed explanation: http://theandystratton.com/2011/shortcode-autoformatting-html-with-paragraphs-and-line-breaks That said, I can’t say for sure what the ThemeForest theme you have is doing, but this is one of the more common issues we’ve seen. One thing that you can do when shopping around for themes is contact the theme author and ask them a few questions. Are they coding to WP standards? Do their themes stay away from removing core WP functionality? I hope this information helps! |

That is exactly what I needed and I am frustrated with Theme Forest! |
Hi Melissa, I’m sorry to hear about that. Is there anything we can do to help? |
