It would appear that Regions and Locales are engineered mainly as a back office and permissions tool. We would like to use the permissions also as a customer feature so that users can see calendar and lists of events in their regions. Is this possible with putting on some gloves and getting dirty in the php. Ideally some kind of shortcode approach.

Hi Matt,
Are you wanting to restrict the users from seeing locales or regions they are not in? If not, you could easily do this with categories. Set up event categories for regions/locales and paste < a href="[CATEGORY_NAME event_id=1]" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">shortcodes on pages or posts accordingly.
