Calendar widget showing dates incorrectly

The calendar widget is suddenly showing events across two days, even though the event date and time are listed as one day.

How do we fix this?

I’ve tried the UTC fix but it didn’t work.

Hi there,

Can you link me to a page with the widget active? I can’t see the calendar widget on your site currently.

I’ve tried the UTC fix but it didn’t work.

May I ask what this fix is, please?

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for the login details, but which page should I be looking at?

With the account I currently have I can’t view the widgets so I don’t know where I should be looking to view the problem, can you post a link to the page with the widget on, please?

Thank you, I see what you mean now.

Do you have any other plugins that deal with dates at all?

If you update my account to an administrator account I can take a quick look in the admin and see if anything stands out. Usually, this happens when either your timezone setting is incorrect within your settings (using something like UTC+5 rather than a location) or there’s another plugin hijacking the request and doing something strange with dates, which then breaks the dates within EE.

Hi Tony

We don’t have any other plugins that are date related and this issue only just started occurring.

I’ve updated your login to admin.

Thank you.

It looks like the widget is actually showing the correct dates: https://monosnap.com/file/Z0tCvA1YnRNAF5CTpp8NhqcdFp2Vhg

The datetime in the event is set to 2019-01-19 10:30 pm – 2019-01-20 03:00 am which is what shows on the widget, however on your event page, the date/time displayed is different 01/20/2019 8:30 am – 1:00 pm, that’s usually a good indicator that another plugin (or the theme) is using date_default_time_zone_set() which is what I was referring to above.

That date/time set on the event editor should be the date/time shown on the event page.

Have you always adjusted your times in the admin until the correct date/time showed on the event page or has this only recently started happening since installing a plugin?

Ho Tony

We haven’t installed any recent plugins and the UTC fix I tried was this: https://eventespresso.com/2017/08/important-upcoming-changes-dates-times/

Which is why the dates times were set as they were, but it still didn’t correct the error?

When I correct the event times which should be 20 JAN 8.30AM – 1PM, it shows correctly on the widget, but in the event listing it shows as

The Village Markets 20th January 2019
01/20/2019
6:30 pm – 11:00 pm

The two don’t seem to be correlating.

The reason for that is the widget is pulling the dates directly from the database and outputting them, so whatever is set in the event would normally be correctly output on the widget.

The single event page loads all of your sites plugins etc so if any of them change the servers default timezone it affects the date output on that page as its all on the same request.

To fix this you’ll need to find which plugin is causing the problem, however, there’s a lot of plugins on that site and I’m guessing the sites is fairly active so you don’t want to disable plugins/theme on the live site?

Do you have a staging server setup? If not, setting one up is going to be the best step towards finding which plugin is causing the problem without disrupting your users when viewing the site.
