Calendar Not Responsive- Can't Read Text

Hello, we have found that the calendar is not responsive on a phone- while the calendar does resize to fit the screen, it’s not readable at all. Bands of color appear on the dates but there is no text. You have to turn the phone in order to see any text or click on anything, but we know that many of our users won’t think of this. Is there a way to make the calendar fully responsive? The calendar add-on is not cheap and I’m surprised that full responsiveness is not built in.

If there is a way to attach a screenshot, please let me know and I will do so.

I also found information on your website about using an event list on mobile devices instead of the visual calendar but the recommended plugin, WP Mobile Direct, has not been updated in four years. Is there a different option?

Thank you,
Jill

Hi Jill,

The reason the calendar does not show text on devices with small screens is because the text does not fit and is too small to read. What you can do instead is serve a list to the smaller devices. If you’d prefer not to use WP Mobile Detect, you could use this plugin instead:

Hi Josh,
Do I use the same shortcode provided on your website with the Conditional Display for Mobile- Mobile Detect Plugin?

The other plugin actually uses different shortcodes and they’re documented here:

Hi Josh, Thank you. Could you detail exactly how I use the shortcode for my Event Espresso calendar? The examples they show are not very helpful, since they detail listing devices to show content on. I just want to be able to show an event list rather than the visual calendar. Thank you.

Here’s an example that shows how to display a list on mobile, and a calendar everywhere else:

[wonderplugin_cond deviceinclude="iPhone,iPod,Android"]
[ESPRESSO_EVENTS]
[/wonderplugin_cond]

[wonderplugin_cond deviceexclude="iPhone,iPod,Android"]
[ESPRESSO_CALENDAR]
[/wonderplugin_cond]

Hi Josh,
OK, so I could plug that in and it should work? Thank you!

Yes, as long as you have this plugin installed and activated, it will work.
