Running WP 3.9.1/Genesis theme. Have not installed Event Espresso yet, but use it (vsn 3.1) on another site. I am planning on installing EE 4. My client would like to allow member organizations to receive one free registration once they purchase one registration. Is there a way to send a different confirmation letter/msg to member organizations, based on a question at registration? For example, if there is a question that has them enter their member id code, could that be used to send a confirmation letter with a promo code for the free registration? Only one free registration is allowed for each organization. Thanks.

Hi there,
Not currently. One of the hurdles that’s in the way at this time is Event Espresso 4 does not currently have a Promo code feature. You may want to look at Event Espresso 3 since it does have a Promo code feature. The membership part of your client’s request would require some custom development, but at least the promo code part of what you’re looking to do would be ready to use out of the box.

Thank you. I realized after posting that EE4 didn’t handle promotional codes – I just assumed it did. I did submit a pre-sales question to get some guidance as well. Is there a timeline for when promo codes will be available in EE4? If I use the current version of EE3, can you tell me if this is where I would put the confirmation email customization: includes/process-registration/payment_page.php? I feel like it shouldn’t be too hard to validate a single field and set a value in the email, if present. Of course, those assumptions are usually where I get into trouble so I appreciate any information you can give me. Thanks.

While we can’t give exact timescales, I can advise that the promo/discount system is currently being worked on. We want to see it released as soon as possible as we know users want it, but it of course needs to be made to a good standard.

I think you may want to look in /wp-content/plugins/event-espresso_ee31365/includes/functions/email.php instead. Especially at event_espresso_email_confirmations which is a pluggable function. In theory you should be able to add your code there, or if not one of the other functions in the file.
Please note that unless you use a pluggable function, any changes to the email.php will be over written on plugin update.
