Broken resize.gif image in cart view with Jetpack Photon

When Jetpack Photon is enabled the resize.gif element of the cart view shows up as a broken image pointing to the image “http://i2.wp.com/myurl.com/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/images/icons/remove.gif?resize=550%2C9999”

Trying to navigate directly to the image results in an error message “We cannot complete this request, remote data could not be fetched”

Hello,

Are the other images working? Have you checked to see if the image is available by going to http://www.YourSite.com/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/images/icons/remove.gif rather than the Photon site?

If the answers are yes, then it is a Jetpack Photon issue and you will need to discuss it with them as to why that singular image is causing an issue.

It is trying to resize the image as well for some reason even though Jetpack states with wont increase the size but instead serve the normal image.

Yes, other images are working. The resize.gif image is the only one I have noticed an issue with so far.

Yes, it is available and deactivating Photon also corrects the issue.

I would gently suggest that perhaps this is the wrong answer and ask you to reconsider taking a look. Jetpack Photon is clearly going to be a big player as a part of the Jetpack plugins from WordPress. I think you might need to be more concerned with ensuring that Event Espresso plays nice with Photon than the other way around. I doubt that Photon developers/support are going to have the access to the test bed (i.e. they don’t have commercial event espresso plugins) necessary to trouble shoot the issue while the folks at Event Espresso clearly have everything needed to easily hunt down what is going on.

The reason I came here first is because after searching around for similar issues I found one with nrelate that was similar and the issue was found to be in the plugin rather than with Photon.

I will also try posting in the wordpress.org forums per your suggestion. Although, I really don’t see how this is desirable from your perspective.

BTW, thank you for your prompt response to my original post!

Hello,

OK, I installed jetpack on a live test server and activated Photon. I could find no issues with images at all.

I did notice though that the URL you provided me was incorrect (sorry that I didnt notice this earlier) it states myurl.com instead of a valid website url.

Now I know that you could have changed this for secrecy reasons, but it needs to be looked at.

If you take my test address http://i1.wp.com/www.thethingsimiss.com/wp-content/plugins/13-add-to-ical/images/icons/remove.gif?w=584 you will see it differs from yours with the url and the last section. (replace the 13-add-to-ical with event-espresso).

so the error is lying in that the url is wrong or something has gone wrong with the last parameters.

Awesome! Thanks for looking at this!

TL;DR It is now fixed. It looks like an update to Event Espresso fixed it??

Getting somewhere now…
So, it looks like the URL being generated by my installation is wrong for some reason.

Here is the URL being generated by my installation:
http://i2.wp.com/purdance.com/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/images/icons/remove.gif?resize=550%2C9999

Strangely, the error being returned by i2.wp.com has changed since yesterday.

YESTERDAY: “We cannot complete this request, remote data could not be fetched”

TODAY: “Sorry, the parameters you provided were not valid”

This manually edited URL now works:
http://i2.wp.com/purdance.com/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/images/icons/remove.gif

If I replace the resize parameter with w=584, as in your URL, that also works. Perhaps the theme conflict is causing the different parameter? The theme I am using is called Responsive.

It’s not the theme. I have the same issue with the Twenty Twelve theme. The URL I got was:
http://i2.wp.com/purdance.com/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/images/icons/remove.gif?resize=960%2C9999

The page that is generating the broken links contains nothing except the shortlink [ESPRESSO_EVENTS]

Updated WordPress to 3.5, cleared cache: No change
Updated Event Espresso: WORKS NOW!

My Event Espresso was a few weeks old because I moved my site from a staging server and needed to get my license key reset. Once the license key was reset and I applied the updates the issue went away.

Thanks for taking a look and helping me figure this out!

No problem, glad it worked itself out!
