Hello —

My clients have used Event Espresso as for their yoga and stand up paddle classes for the past few years. As it’s time to renew their licenses for the upcoming season, they wanted to know if the latest release of Event Espresso will now show available class spaces on the calendar view. This is something they really need — and may have to find another program if this can’t be done with Event Espresso. Can you let me know if this is something that has been implemented with the latest version? Thanks.

Hi there,

We are testing out the next release of the calendar add-on (it will be version 2.0.5) which will add a display of registrations/available counter in the tooltip. Here’s a screenshot of what that will look like.

Please note that if they have a lot of events and wish to use this feature, they may need to upgrade their server because when this feature is turned on and there are hundreds of events in the system, the calendar uses a lot of resources.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Josh. 🙂 Any idea when Version 2.05 might be released? Or if there’s any kind of workaround that might work in the interim?

Thanks!

Hi,

We are hoping to release the calendar update in a batch of releases we have planned shortly.

It is just undergoing testing currently and there is only one ticket outstanding on it, so I am hopeful it will be in the next week or so.

One workaround would be to add the following shortcode to your event description, near the top.

[ATTENDEE_NUMBERS event_id=4 type=num_attendees_slash_reg_limit]

Thanks, Dean! Looking forward to the new release. Another question, regarding the new feature’s draw on server resources. We will probably have about 200 events in the system — is this going to be an issue?

Hi

That shouldn’t be an issue, but obviously there are other factors that we cannot always foresee – server quality, server setup, website setup and other peoples code, etc etc.

Generally a few hundred events are not an issue, when people are hitting high hundreds/thousands it causes problems. I believe the developers have been looking into ways to reduce server load via the calendar but I am not well up on what they decided on.
