Automatic Refund Message?

Hi, we had an email today from a registrant who received an auto-generated message today (12/14) telling them a refund had been issued. We did not process a refund for him, and he claims he paid for the conference and doesn’t know why he’s getting a refund. I looked at this transaction in Event Espresso and it says his transaction was incomplete and the Gateway response is “The payment was cancelled, reversed, or voided. Please update registrations accordingly.” This was through Paypal Standard.

To my understanding, this means that he must have cancelled the payment on his end in Paypal, correct? Does Event Espresso automatically generate the refund messages if a registration is listed as unpaid after a certain amount of time? The original transaction date was October 5th and the refund date on Paypal appears to be October 7th.

That’s correct.

With PayPal Standard paypal send IPN’s to your site that update the payment with changes made through PayPal, for example if the payment is refunded, PayPal send an IPN to your site informing EE that this has happened which will then update the Payment within EE. So its not EE automatically updating the payment but PayPal sending a IPN to tell EE to update the payment when soemthing on PayPals end changes, make sense?

If you log into your PayPal account you should see this payment from the user, there you should whats happened to the payment (ie it now being refunded)

No it does not.

Note – EE does not support all IPN messages and does not update PayPal when you update the payment within EE itself. Normal payments and refunds through PayPal work though.
