I upgraded Event Espresso today because of an issue I’ve discovered with attendees being overwritten in the attendees database, but apparently my issue is somehow different than the one that was previously fixed because my problem still exists.

I’m using WordPress 3.5.1 and EE 3.1.30.7P. I’ve created an event that requires pre-approval of attendees. Because of that, and other needs, I’ve got it set up so that only one attendee may register at a time.

I’ve discovered that when more than one attendee uses the same device to register, all attendees receive the automated email message telling them that they are in the approval queue, but each subsequent attendee overwrites the previous one in the database.

For instance, if John Smith submits his registration information, he’ll get the email saying that his registration is waiting to be approved. If Sally Jones takes over and uses the same device to register herself, she gets her email as well. But when I go into the system to approve them, only Sally Jones’ registration exists. John is nowhere to be found. And if someone registers after Sally, then she disappears as well.

I downloaded a CSV file to check if maybe John was hiding somewhere in the database but just not displaying on my screen, but John is indeed gone. I also wondered if maybe the same registration ID was being generated for each person, but that’s not the case.

I’ve tested this using my laptop, desktop and iPad and have had the same issue occur every time. Is there some way to fix this? It is pretty likely that I will have several people who share a computer want to register for my event.

Hi Ken,

I am unable to recreate this locally. The only way I can think that the user is able to do this is to somehow not finalise the session. We had this a while back but resolved it. As soon as the person hits a certain point in the registration process they are entered into the database, so if you hit the back button and try again a new person is entered.

So to trouble shoot.

Deactivate all plugins (including EE) and then reactivate EE. Then see if the issue still occurs. Bring plugins back online one by one testing the process each time.

Hi Dean. I have deactivated all of my plugins and reactivated only Event Espresso. Sadly, I am having the same issue with only EE running. If it helps any, I’ve noticed that if a payment is completed, that person is not overwritten. In my situation, though, payments won’t be made at the time someone initially registers because everyone needs to be approved first.

Any other suggestions?

You might want to set the default payment status to pending. That way if the attendee hasn’t paid, then the record is not overwritten.

Let us know if that helps or not

Well that worked! Thank you.

I hope that you will consider adding this information to your documentation. It would have never occurred to me that incomplete registrations might be over written.

Thanks. I will make note of this in our documentation.

We have this page here that explains the different payment statuses:

Thanks Seth. I did read that page. It’s just that it’s not clear that there’s a possibility that people with an incomplete status could disappear if they don’t either activate a payment gateway or download an invoice. I would imagine that this would be a common problem for anyone who activate the registration pre-approval feature.
