This is Tammi L. Coles, the developer working on http://www.feuerläufer.net/wp/ using EE 3.1.31.3.P on WP 3.5.1.  First of all, kudos to the EE team. Although the following question may seem nitpicking, I am actually positively impressed with EE and happy to implement it for this site. The high return on investment for small business users is astounding.

Now for the question.

The Feuerläufer/Firewalkers site is currently in German but, because some events will be offered in English, we’d like the calendar and events to be available in both languages. I’ve searched the forums and seen a number of questions regarding EE’s compatibility with the equally impressive WordPress Multilingual (WPML) plugin. Most of which say  “they don’t play well together.”

That’s too bad. I’ve been working with WPML for years and can attest personally to the quality of the plugin and the responsiveness of the developers to other theme and plugin authors. Still, those reviews are about EE 3.x not the upcoming release.

Will EE 4.x (Arabica) offer better usability and performance for multilingual event registration, language switching, and, specifically, compatibility with WPML?

Thanks for letting us know!

Hi Tammi,

Firstly, thank you! We appreciate compliments, it makes our day!

Regarding the WPML integration, I have not heard anything in respect to this, but I have put a message out on our internal blog asking for some further information. We do get a few requests for WPML or similar plugin integration.

I havent tested it myself as to why it doesnt integrate well as “most” of the strings (I wont say all but its certainly very high percentage) are translatable.

When I get some feedback I will let you know, I think though the it will be a case of the plugin will be translatable but no specific integration will be done, for the very least in the beginning. Our main priorities lie in getting the plugin to a high quality and then rebuilding the addons to work with 4.0

Hi Tammi,

I spoke to a developer on this and right now there is no immediate plans to integrate WPML. Once the dust has settled on 4.X then we can revisit it and see how feasible it will be.
