Approve Transactions without Payments

Hello.
I need assistance. I have 2 current registrations reflecting they are approved; however, there are no corresponding PayPal payments received.

I reached out to PayPal and they stated the customer’s payments were declined?
At this point, I’m not sure how to understand the problem. I would expect Event Expresso, when completing the transaction, would not allow the transaction to moved to the Approved Status. Please help me figure this out. Thank you. Nichole Cox

Can you go to your even and check the Default Registration Status, Was it set to approved? If yes, then all registration will be approved no matter they pay or not.

Hi Rio,

The default Registration Status is set to “Pending Payment”. I did try one thing to see if it makes a difference. I have disabled Dynamic Caching for the entire site. So far there have been no issues but we have been using EE for 5 months now and have only had this issue occur 3 times and they were all in the last 3 weeks so it is very sporadic. Are there any other things you know of that could cause this to occur very rarely? I was thinking maybe a timeout issue possibly so I also changed the session lifespan to two hours.

Im not aware with this issue, but ill check with the tEEm. Can you tell me if this only happen in Paypal Commerce? Or it also happen in different PM(payment method)?

When this happen, what EE version, php, wp version are you using?

You mention, you disabled the caching and everything is now smooth? What push you to disable it?

We are only using PayPal Commerce as our payment option.
We were using EE 5.0.16.p. WP 6.4.3 and php 8.0.30 when the issue occured.

We have done hundreds of transactions and only had 3 with this issue so it is very sporadic which is really hard to pinpoint what caused it. The only thing we know is these were declined by PayPal but still got marked as Approved for some reason. My only though is EE somehow thought a decline was an approval in these instances but hard to tell for sure. We will keep and eye on it and let you know if it happens again.

When I disabled caching I was just trying different ideas. It has only been off for a few days so I don’t think that resolved anything. I have since turned it back on with no issues.

Hi there,

Within Event Espresso -> Payment methods -> Logs

If you search for the EE transactions for the above payments, can you see any log entries for these payments?

That will give us the response from PayPal so we can see what details EE was working from.
