Any experience with pass events suddenly showing up after updates?

Hi there guys,
I’m working on Hoffmanarts.org and updated the EE plugins we’re running only to find that our Event shortcode (which was not changed):

[ESPRESSO_EVENTS category_slug=event show_expired=false order_by=start_date,id button_text=’More Info’]

Immediately began to show expired (as in it started to show closed events from 2022). I had to restore the whole site, and am now booting up a staging environment to do some very controlled updates to see if I can duplicate this and see when it happened.

But wanted to ping you to see if this is something you’ve seen before?
I will update you on WHEN exactly this happens – I updated a lot of plugins on this site (including a bunch of EE ones).

Hi Shelly,

Theres a bunch of possible causes for it to happen, if something is hooking into the query and messing up the filters it can throw all kinds of strange issues.

What I would do here is start by just updating Event Espresso itself on the staging site and see if the expired events show, if so we can then look into the query being ran on the page to see why it’s happening.

Oh crap.. Totally spaced that 🙂
Ok – to give you SFTP credentials, I need to invite you to collaborate (Flywheel) on the site, then you get an invitiation which will create credentials that you’ll use to get onto the server. What email should I use?

Just sent! Let me know if you need me to get you anything else and thank you so much for looking at this issue. I am pretty sure you will be able to get to the staging environment…
*As a side note, the waitlist functionality is no longer working either.

Hello there – I’ve not heard anything for a while… is there an update?
Waitlist functionality still not working, but I need to be able to update the plugin to make sure that it’s not a simple issue that will resolve when updated… I can’t update because whenever I do, all the old events begin to show up on the website. Please let me know if you need anything more from me. You should have recived an invitation from Flywheel to access SFTP. I will resend just in case…

Starting to get pestered by the client on why the WaitList is still not working. If we can figure out that now, maybe the update isssue will also resolve?

I thought updating the EE plugin would fix the missing Waitlst, but then this bigger problem happened…

Let me know if you can have someone go in and look at this please…. I will resend the SFTP Invite from Flywheel… just tell me when you’ll be taking a look. Thanks!

I did report this to our developer that we seems to have problem with the parameter show_expired. By default, it should show the active/upcoming event only. So to resolve this issue, please remove show_expired in your parameter if you’re trying to show the active/upcoming event only.

the code will be [ESPRESSO_EVENTS category_slug=event order_by=start_date,id button_text=’More Info’]

Great. That seems to fix the problem with the old events showing up. I am trying to see if updating the plugin fixes the missing WaitList option… I’m still testing that.

Ok so now we are basically back to us not seeing the Waitlist option (Which was original issue that I was hoping would be fixed once I updated the main EE pluging). We tested dropping down max registrants to 1 of 1 and the waitlist feature did not appear. I can’t leave the settings like that and we don’t have any other events that should show the waitlist… but I need some help figuring out why it’s not working for hoffmanarts.org. Thanks!

Hi there,

So Old classes are showing up on the phone and tablet, even though I updated the shortcode… now the client is totally freaking out. So I am reverting back to before I updated the shortcode and the plugin (on the live site).

I just re sent you the invitation to Flywheel. I will send login credentaisl via this link now.

I installed a plugin used to troubleshoot. it seems there’s a plugin conflict.

​in that screenshot, only the EE and promotion is active, together with this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/ or any similar plugin.

You can do the above using Troubleshooting mode:

Tools -> Site Health -> Troubleshooting -> Enabled Troubleshooting mode.

That will disable all plugins and switch to a default theme and then allow you to enable specific plugins troubleshooting mode.

​You can enable plugin one by one and to check which of the plugin causing it.

​Once Health Check & Troubleshooting you will revert back to the current state.
