The error itself is not a cause for concern security wise, it basically means Event Espresso received a response that it was not expecting.
It usually means a notice or similar was thrown during the request which breaks the ajax request. The notice can be from anything, a plugin, the theme or something EE is doing.
Event Espresso itself does not store the users card details so as far as Event Espresso is concerned the details should be safe (as they aren’t there to begin with).
Which payment method are you using?
Do you have access to the server error logs? If so check within those to see what errors were thrown around the same time the above user attempted to make a payment.
