Add to Calendar (more than ical format) to outgoing email templates

So, I have been perusing the forum for a while and have found it silly that EE does not support the most popular calendar links embedded into outgoing emails for the event.

When i purchased this program (and even the upgraded version), I assumed it would be for people who were serious about events. Embedding the calendar invite (in the popular formats) into all outgoing correspondence is CRITICAL — and knowing that this is NOT part of the program makes me very annoyed.

Why is there not a space in the email templates for me to embed the html snippet from Add to Calendar??? http://addtocalendar.com/

Is this something that can be easily remedied?

Hi,

Event Espresso provides a .ics file You have access to the Message Templates add any valid html.

We provide the [ICAL_LINK_*] shortcode to iclude the datetime iCal link. The optional “link_text” attribute can be used to set custom text within the link (Default is “Add to iCal Calendar”).

Once again proving that this is not as “out of the box” as it should be for the amount of money paid for this program!

I am not a coder, but i am also not a novice, so here I am searching the ftp for an .ics file that doesn’t exist, it seems.

If I’d have known I would have to also add expense to hire an additional coder for something as SIMPLE as being able to add in HTML code into the email messages in wordpress (which should be a NO BRAINER), I would have just hired a coder outright and not gone down the “all in the box”, supposedly, route.

Please delineate CLEARLY where this .ics file folder is structurally, so I can find it in the FTP and spend WAY too much time trying to edit it….

I am still FLABBERGASTED there is no way to simply add in the code from ADD TO CALENDAR that I have to the messaging system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You add a short code to the message template. This does not involve using FTP.

Here are the steps:
1) you go to Event Espresso > Messages > Default Message Templates, then you select the message template that will get the Add to Calendar link.

2) Then, in the Message Template, you scroll down to the
[DATETIME_LIST] section, and add this short code to the message where you want the Add to Calendar link to appear:
[ICAL_LINK_*]

3) You click Save.
