Activating Quickbooks Merchant Services Payment Settings in EE3

Hi there!

I am trying to connect Quickbooks merchant services to EE3 but the instructions in EE3 aren’t working:

How to Configure QuickBooks Merchant Services Payment Gateway

First signup for a Merchant Services Account here – I’ve done this.

After creating the account, click here to link Event Espresso to your QuickBooks Merchant Services account – this link doesn’t work: https://merchantaccount.quickbooks.com/j/sdkconnection?appid=679873720&sessionEnabled=false

After you click on the previous link, enter your QuickBooks Merchant Services email and password.

You will then be given a ‘Connection Ticket’, which you must copy and paste into the Field ‘Connection Ticket’ in Event Espresso’s QuickBooks Merchant Services payment settings field.
(Note: if you change whether you’re using the PTC/Development server, you will need to re-acquire your connection ticket.)

All done! Now just test that payments are working, and you’re done!

I’m unable to get my connection ticket because I can’t follow these steps.

Can you verify this still works, or provide updated instructions?

Thanks so much!
Amanda

Hello there!

I am sorry for the delay in this. I have checked your environment and I encourage you to upgrade your Event Espresso 3 to our Event Espresso 4 which is receiving more updates. It’s important to know that Quickbooks also updates their platform which impacts our plugin. You can check more details here: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-upgrade-event-espresso/#migrate-to-event-espresso-4

I will be glad to help if you decide to keep with Event Espresso 3, but some features are deprecated due to the third-party companies.

Would you still be able to assist us with this request?

Thanks so much!

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back and sorry for delaying with this.

I will forward your topic to my teammate that is more experienced with Event Espresso 3. Your issue is a bit more complex since we will need to run a couple of tests with Quickbooks and the oldest Event Espresso version. However, Tony should get back to you as soon as possible with further details.

Thank you! This would be super important to our business. I know it’s with the older version of EE, but this would really help us in the short-term.

Thanks again! Amanda

Hi there,

I’ve been looking into this and unfortunately, it looks like the connection method used by EE3 has now been deprecated by QuickBooks/Intuit so it will no longer work.

I’ve requested some details from one of our developers to confirm if this is the case.

If Intuit has dropped support for the connection method within EE3 I recommend switching to EE4 if you need to use QuickBooks.

Hi Amanda,

My apologies for the delay, this took a little digging and unfortunately it does indeed appear that the connection method used by EE3 has been removed on their end so it is no longer compatible.

The payment method for EE3 would need to be completely re-written to be compatible with the latest method, as we focus any new development on EE4 we don’t have plans to re-write the EE3 QuickBooks payment method to make it compatible.

You mentioned above that you are unable to update to EE4, may I ask why? The reason I ask is EE3 is now our ‘legacy’ version and only receives security updates as needed, eventually, that version will be phased out in place of EE4 so if there is a sticking point for you I’d like to at the very least bring that up with the team as you may not be the only person affected.

Thank you for the update!

I appreciate the information too. We are going to assess moving for EE4. Do you know how recurring events from EE3 get migrated to EE4? Are they able to get moved over or do we have to re-create all of those from scratch?

Thanks!
Amanda

Hi there,

Apologies for the delayed reply, I wanted to confirm this as I haven’t run through an EE3 migration for recurring events in a while now but what will happen in that situation is the recurring series will transfer over by creating an individual EE4 event for each event in the EE3 series and add -n to the event slug:

/events/my-event/
/events/my-event-2/
/events/my-event-3/

And so on until it reaches the end of the series.

So this is an example of a recurring series I have migrated to EE4: https://monosnap.com/file/xT6hlzk1sCRGlP2JvlUOBfdyhQIMIr

Each event is separate and not ‘connected’ in a series anymore, you can batch update the events etc like you can in EE3.

I think the best way to see how this will work on your site, is to create a development copy of the current site you have. I could be on a subdomain or locally and then migrate to EE4 there whilst leaving the live site alone. Then you can play around with how the events will display on your theme etc and see what works for you (and what does not).

Great 🙂

Note, I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have on this. I just think the best way for you to see if it will work for your needs is to test it out so you can see what happens that way. EE4 integrates more heavily into the current theme so a lot of questions based on ‘how will it look if X’ actually depends on your theme so I can’t give you an accurate answer without trying it out.
