Accepted and Declined Promotion Messages

I’ve set up lots of voucher codes for a Christmas promotion and each one has a custom message so that once the code is already used customers are informed.

However this message is no being displayed – instead the standard one of ‘this is working (or similar)’ which is confusing the hell out of people. Any idea why? I need to fix quickly before we do tomorrow’s promo.

Thanks.

Hi there,

If you edit one of the promo codes, do you still see the custom messages saved there?

Do you have a test event and promo code I can use to see this please?

Hi Tony,

Yes, I see the custom messages but they actually work.

I could give you an example but I had to hard code some change of wording into the plugin yesterday because we had hundreds of angry customers thinking that our code didn’t work, not understanding that it had already been used. 🙂

But you can play around anyway, using yesterday’s code: XMASDIY
https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/diy-in-a-day-drills/

Also, you will see that it doesn’t say anywhere, “enter your discount code here” which also caused some confusion.

Another disaster today! The hard-coded declined message didn’t show up. instead the default, this code isn’t valid did – which really wound people up.

You can try today’s code: XMASWOOD and see what I mean.
https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/basic-carpentry/

Also, the codes are considered USED once someone enters them, even if they don’t go on to complete their transaction.

I really need some help to fix this today as our promotion is going on for another 10 days!

Fixed the issue about the hard-coded messages. But being able to display custom messages quite important.

But would love to ensure that the codes aren’t considered ‘used’ without payment being added.

For me the custom message is being displayed – http://take.ms/JoeRa

Have you recently change it or should it be showing something different?

Also, the codes are considered USED once someone enters them, even if they don’t go on to complete their transaction.

That’s currently expected because the code has been assigned to the registration.

Hi Tony,

You are now viewing the fixed ‘hard coded’ message. I had to fix it quick because our phones are ringing off the hook. So the custom messages are really not displaying still.

Real shame about the codes getting used up without payment though. That means they have to be manually released again. 🙁

Hi, the reason why the promotions codes stay applied is because you may have offline payment methods such as checks / money orders or invoices that are in progress.

For those who did not pay online at the ticket of checkout, you can send a payment reminder through the transaction details screen and they will have an opportunity to pay.

OK, that makes sense. Thanks.

Back to the original issue – the custom ‘accepted’ and ‘declined’ message. Bizarrely, the custom accept message works fine. It’s the declined one that doesn’t.

It’s hard coded for now so our problem is immediately solved, but would be good for a fix for future updates.

Also, we had to hard code in a line above the box to explain that its for entering the code. Again, fixed for us for now, but good to have that on a future fix.

Hi there,

Can you post the code (preferably in a gist or in a pastebin, then link here please) that you had tried earlier that did not work so we can investigate? Thanks.
