I am using a 100% coupon discount and when they apply this the number of seats does not decrease. I think because its waiting for a response from paypal letting the system know that it was paid for. Is there a way around this, any ideas?

Which version number of Event Espresso is installed?

Actually, it shouldn’t even go to PayPal. Is the attendee getting recorded in the backend? This should be marked as a completed registration.

Is there a caching plugin installed? If so, disable caching for the pages that handle the event registration. Most popular caching plugins have a feature that lets you disable caching for specific pages.

Dave

No I am not using caching. The version I am using 3.1.24. The attendee is getting recorded. But shows as incomplete payment.

Do you have the WP user integration add-on installed? And if so, which version number?

Dave

I have it but not installed. I have the latest version 1.9. Do I really need to use this if I am creating a coupon?

No, I only asked to find out more information about your installation. I’m not able to reproduce this error on any of my test installations, and am looking for more clues about what is going on. If someone uses a 100% coupon code for a single event, it shouldn’t even take them to a PayPal page, is this happening on your installation?

Dave

July 9, 2012 at 2:46 pm

It doesn’t bring me to paypal, I enter the coupon code and it goes to “0” it says payment is complete. When I look in the admin area the number of attendees is “0” and when I look at the payment for the attendee it says not complete.

Dave

July 9, 2012 at 2:52 pm

The Default Payment Status for Event: is set to no change. Should this be set to something else.

Dave

July 9, 2012 at 2:56 pm

If I set Default Payment Status for Event: to pending, it works. How does this work with a real payment, do you need to set this to pending?

Dave

July 9, 2012 at 3:07 pm

Sorry I set the default to complete and it worked not pending. But here is my problem, if I set to complete even those who did not pay show completed. I tested in this way, I went to paypal and didn’t complete payment and it showed that the customer paid and deducted a the seat count. Am I missing something.

There are two options that set the default payment status. The global option is in Event Espresso>General settings. Check that first. That should be set to incomplete for most cases. In each event, you can override it. Leave the event setting set to no change to use the global setting.

Ok, I ran some tests. If I put the price to “0” it deducts the seat and shows the payment as complete. If I set the price any other number and use the 100% coupon code it does not mark as complete and does not deduct the seat.

My options are set to exactly what you said above.

Is there a confirmation email sent when you test this with the discount code set to 100 percent off?

Dave

July 9, 2012 at 4:31 pm

Yes I receive the confirmation. I made the coupon for 101% and it now shows complete and deducts the seat. Anything over 100% works.

Dave

July 9, 2012 at 4:44 pm

I repeated the test over and over again and the 101% does not work. I do get the 100% confirmation email but the seat is not deducted and payment does not show completed.

That’s interesting. What was the regular price for this ticket?

Dave

July 10, 2012 at 8:32 am

The regular price is $235. I created a coupon for 100%. Everything works fine except the seat deduction and showing complete payment. If I set the price to 0, I get the seat deduction and the complete payment.

Ok, I upgraded to the newest release of 3.1.2.4.1.P. I didn’t realize there was a new release past 3.1.2.4.P. When I remove the comments for the shopping_cart template all prices are now 1.00. The coupon code does not work at all now.

Dave

July 10, 2012 at 5:04 pm

When I say I remove the comments I mean for the coupon code section

So is this for the Multi Event Registration coupon codes? I’d advise reverting back to the prior version is you’re using coupon codes + Multi Event Registration.

We will be releasing an update to 3.1.24 that will address a few bugs with the coupon codes.

In the next few days. Note that we are not currently supporting promo codes in Multi Event Registration, so the update may or may not work.

Dave

July 12, 2012 at 4:49 pm

Hi Josh,

I tried the updates the .2 and .3 and both still show the amount as $1.00. Any other way of getting 100% to report payment completed.

It sounds like you have older versions of the templates in /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates. Try renaming that directory to something like /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templatesOLD

Dave

July 16, 2012 at 11:25 am

I uploaded the the update 3.1.2.4.3 and did not change any templates. The original templates are in the folder. If I add to cart the price shows correctly with no modifications to the templates. If I remove the remarks on the coupon section in shopping_cart.php the amount when added shows up as $1.00.

Josh

Can you clarify what you mean by original templates? The templates that are included with 3.1.24.3 are the templates that need to load, older templates may break things.

We dropped support for the discount codes in shopping_cart.php a few versions back, so these functions may need to be updated to use the newer discount code functions and variables.

Dave

July 16, 2012 at 1:43 pm

when I say original templates I am talking about the template that came with 3.1.24.3. I used those templates in the template folder. How do you use the newer discount functions. In the past I edited the shopping_cart.php and removed the remarks in the coupons section.

I will need to check with the dev team on this. The discount code feature of Multi Event Registration was removed from the plugin a while ago and hasn’t been updated. I ran a few quick tests and it looks like there are a few issues with this feature since Event Espresso core discount features have been updated.

Dave

July 17, 2012 at 9:32 am

Ok thanks for looking into it

Does the new version address the coupon issue?

Josh

With Multi Event Registration, no. Promo codes and groupon codes are not compatible with Multi Event Registration at this time.

Wait! I just paid for a business license so we could upgrade. My group used an older version before and it was fine with MER and Coupons. Nowhere did it say that it would not work in future versions once I updated. When can I expect that this will be fixed?

Josh

I am not sure when this will be fixed. A ticket has been created to address the issue with the coupon codes + Multi Event Registration. Right now it’s not passing an event price if the section of shopping_cart.php that handles the discount codes is commented in. It was never working as it should have been in that any code in the system would work for any event. This was a flaw from the beginning in that the original developer of mer did not factor into the design of this add-on.

I’ve tested this in Event Espresso 3.1.23.P and the prices seem to be working fine with Multi Event Registration + Coupons. If you would like a copy of this version for testing, please let us know.

jmichel

Yes, please. I would like the 3.1.23 for testing.

There’s been a fix that will be incorporated the next version. There should be an update soon.

I’m also running into the same issue with 100% coupon codes not working properly with Multi Event Registration. I was able to check out with $0 and received e-mail confirmation (customer and admin), however the payment was incomplete and I didn’t receive the Mailchimp subscription e-mail.
I’ve upgraded to 3.1.26 before testing these, but I had to edit the shopping_cart.php file (uncommented the coupon codes) to make the coupon code field visible on the cart page.

Any ETA for the new release? I’m working on a deadline to the open registration in 2 weeks. If it’s not ready then, I would have to figure out a workaround.

John Kudos

Actually, I’ve tried a few different codes and none of them worked.

Has the 100% coupon problem been fixed in 3.1.27?

jmichel

October 3, 2012 at 12:07 pm

I would like to know this as well. I’m currently running an older version so I can also run MER and have coupons, but would love to upgrade now that the double charging issue has been fixed in the latest update.
