Frequently asked questions about the Braintree payment gateway

Is a WordPress website required?
Event Espresso and the Braintree payment gateway extension are both plugins for WordPress so you’ll need a website running WordPress to use them. If you don’t currently have a website, then check out Event Smart where you can use event registration software with Braintree to receive event registrations from your attendees.

Does my WordPress website need to meet any requirements to use Braintree?
PHP 5.4 or newer is required. Your web host (WordPress hosting provider) can help you with this.

How can I set up a recurring payment, payment plan, or a subscription through Braintree?
Recurring payments, payment plans, or subscriptions are not currently supported in the Braintree payment gateway. When an attendee pays for their event registration through Braintree, they pay up front so, you receive your funds right away.

When I refund a payment, does it also refund through Braintreepayments.com?
Refunds in Event Espresso 4 are currently a two-step process. First, apply the refund through the transaction details screen of Event Espresso in your WP-admin (WP dashboard). Then log in to your Braintree merchant account and process the refund.

Is an SSL certificate needed for Braintree?
A dedicated SSL certificate is recommended if you are accepting payments on your website.

Do I need to be PCI compliant?
Compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) is required if you are processing, storing, or transmitting credit card data. Event Espresso helps you by using Braintree’s Drop-in Payment UI for payment processing and, we recommend using a dedicated SSL certificate on your website.
