Problem with entering correct time in Events.

Hi,

I’ve been trying to change the times on an existing event and it’s acting really quirky. (this is not a extra EE plugin, this is the date/time function when creating an event) On both the Mac and a PC the slider to change the time either is frozen and other times when it does move the time doesn’t correspond to the numbers on the slider bar. This also happens when I try adding a new event.

I deactivated all my other plugins, cleared cookies/cache but this doesn’t help. I have my time setting at H:1 in WP general settings (I tried the third one down too…. which actually looks like the same thing.) Which brings up another question… can we get the time/calendar in 24 hour format? The time appears correctly on the front-end, but it would be ideal to have it this way in the backend as well. Anyway, most important is to get the time/date to function correctly.

Thanks so much,
Doris

Hi Doris,

The datepicker in the event editor in the WP dashboard is not currently localized. I’ve added additional feedback to that enhancement ticket.

With that mentioned, the datepicker itself should still allow you to select a date and time.

You mentioned that it appeared stuck and was not responding. Do you see this issue when you temporarily deactivate all plugins and reactivate only Event Espresso 4? Along with that, could you confirm that you are using a current release and not a version from the older platform?

Here is a quick demo of how it should work:

Hey Lorenzo,

I deactivated all my plugins and still there is a problem… it’s intermittent… it will work and then it freezes, or when you can move the slider, it doesn’t correspond to the times shown on the slider. It seems to be worse on the PC. I just updated EE to Version 4.8.4.p, I guess about a week ago. All my plugins and WordPress (4.3) are current versions. I’m using Genesis Dynamik theme (Version: 2.1.3 · Released: August 11, 2015). If you want to take a look, I can email you login info.

Thanks,
Doris

Hi Doris,

Can you let me know which timezone is set in WP > General Settings and also, the times you’re changing from and to? Also are you trying to change the start time, the end time, or both?

Hi Josh,

I am using the third one down, the 24 hour one in WP, General Settings. I’ve tried the custom one with H:i set as well, but it makes no difference. I was advancing both the start and end times an hour. Some of the start times changed from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm or 8:00 am to 9:00 am. The end times changed from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Thanks,
Doris

Hi Doris,

That’s the time format used to display the times, we need the Timezone set on the site.

For example, on one of my sites it is set to London – http://take.ms/1qN9a

The Javascript on the datepicker uses the sites timezone and also your browser timezone (the zone set on your machine) to calculate the correct output on the datepicker, so we need to at least your site settings and test this out 🙂

Hi Tony,

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I have the timezone set to Madrid, but actually both my client and I were in France when we were trying to change the times and the datepicker was acting quirky. I’m back in Spain now and just checked my Mac’s region preferences…it’s set to Spain, but perhaps it changed to France when I was there. I work mostly in Chrome but don’t see where there’s a region setting. Anyway, I’m back in Spain and just re-tried and it’s working fine for me now. So maybe that’s the reason? I will have my client check on her PC (she’s also on her way back to Spain). But… question… my client lives in Spain and France, so if in fact this is the issue, how does she avoid this? Does she need to make sure to keep her computer region preferences to Spain?

Thanks,
Doris

We’ll be able to answer your question based on whether or not it’s an issue with the PC’s region settings.

My client’s PC is set to Spain regional settings and she’s still having a problem. Also, I see now that I still have a problem changing the time on the Event End. I can move the slider but the times do not correspond with the timebar. The Event Start works perfectly.

Can you give us a screenshot of the WP General Settings where you have the timezone, date format, and time format set so we can investigate.

The out of sync end date time slider is a known issue and will be fixed in an upcoming release, but in the meantime it shouldn’t prevent anyone from changing the event end time.

Hi Doris,

The screenshot URL is going to a 404 screen, can you double check the URL for the screenshot please?

Hi Doris,

I’ve been testing the same setup with the timezone, time and date formats, and set my computer’s system time to use Central European Summer Time. I’m not seeing any locking up of the time editors. Can you give me an example of what your client is seeing, or possibly a screenshot/video?

Hi there Doris,

In this support post you asked about making the date and time format in the date picker for the event editor match the WordPress date and time format.

That is available in the current version of Event Espresso 4 and here is an example of how to enable it:

Hi Lorenzo,

Thanks for the follow-up, I’ll give it a try. Also, I didn’t get a chance to thank you for your follow-up on translations before the post closed… but thanks, great new instructions!
