Excluding Category from Calendar – Code suggestion not working

Greetings,

I am working with latest WordPress update, EE3, on holisticlivingschool.org.

I would like to exclude the category “southflorida” from a main calendar. We have a calendar set up with ONLY that category, and wish to exclude it from our Central Florid calendar page to limit location confusion.

I utilized code found on this page https://eventespresso.com/topic/exclude-a-category-from-appearing-in-calendar/ – replicated based on our site’s categories here:

[ESPRESSO_CALENDAR event_category_id=”weedwalks,workshops,herbalism-program,distance-learning,holistic-living-in-the-garden,holistic-living-in-the-kitchen,holistic-living-mindbodyspirit,community-events-1386737289″ show_expired=”true”]

The link this is located in is:
http://www.holisticlivingschool.org/classes/events/

However this code wiped our calendar blank. May you please advise how we can list all the categories EXCEPT southflorida, and restore the calendar listings?

Thank you!

Hi,

The shortcode should work but I think you need to check the category ID’s.

E.g is the category ID for weedwalks, actually weedwalks?

For example, I have a category called something, it’s id is something-1415005737

You can check the ID’s by going to the Categories menu and looking at the shortcode for each category in the list. Or you can edit the category and check the Unique Category Identifier.

Thanks Dean – I thought of this but here is the shortcode listed, which I had just copied and pasted from the page into the calendar page code:

[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”weedwalks”]
[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”workshops”]
[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”herbalism-program”]
[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”distance-learning”]
[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”holistic-living-in-the-garden”]
[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”holistic-living-in-the-kitchen”]
[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”holistic-living-mindbodyspirit”]
[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”community-events-1386737289″]

[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”southflorida”]

Let me know if you might see the issue…double checking it seems they are the same category identifiers as listed in the category list…

Hi Emily,

I can confirm that currently the Calendar will not accept multiple categories to display.

The way to set this up is to create a single category, for example a ‘Public’ category, then add the events you wish to be shown within the main calendar and set that calendar to only display the public category.
