Hello,

I’m running the latest version of WordPress and the latest version of Event Espresso (3.1.26.P) and I cannot add any event categories. In reading another post about this, I updated the plugin due to the fact that I had an older version of Event Espresso. However, the update didn’t help at all. Please advise.

Thanks,

BJC

Can you explain what you mean when you say you can’t add categories? Are you getting an error? Is Categories available in the EE menu? What do you see when you access Categories from the Event Espresso Menu?

I’m not getting an error, but when I create a category, nothing happens. For example, when I go to “Categories” and click on “Add New Category” and enter a category name and unique ID and then save it, the category does not get saved. After multiple attempts, no categories appear on the “Manage Event Categories” page or in the “Event Categories” section of any given event. I’ve tried to do this repeatedly, but to no avail. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Thanks,

BJC

Sounds like one of the tables didn’t get set up correctly. Is this a fresh install or did you upgrade from an older version? Can you try deactivating the plugin and re-activating it?

Yes, as mentioned initially this is an upgrade (from v. 3.1.20P) I’ve reinstalled it, deactivated and activated it several times and repaired the database in phpMyAdmin, but I’m still unable to create any event categories.

Hi there,

You might need to manually add the category_meta column to the wp_events_category_detail table . Please see this related post where there are instructions on how to add this:

I have the category_meta column in my database and I can’t add categories either. I have deactivated and reactivated it. I even bought the personal package, thinking the latest paid version may take care of this problem and so I could read the fix in this thread but nothing…

I did have Force_SSL Admin on but have removed that as well and it still does not work.

Also, I can’t add events, there is no warning or nothing, just does not add events or categories… Update, it looks as though the event I added did go in, since when I viewed the event registration page, I see the test even on that page… looks like the events are going in, but the admin area just isn’t seeing it…

Can’t add questions either … but I do see the test questions in the Question Group selection area …

It sounds like your database is messed up. Try running the Requirements Check plugin on the Requirements page and see if it picks up any obvious problems. You may also need to check your database collation to make sure all the tables are utf8_general_ci. We’ve seen a couple issues where some tables were utf8_general_ci and some were something else, and write actions from one table to another could not be performed.

All database collation tables are utf8_general_ci .. requirements are ok, MYSQL is version 5.1.63-cll, I am getting a note about Apache function apache_get_modules() but I don’t see it listed in my server’s disabled_functions area in PHP, also the requirements are saying i’m hosting on GoDaddy which isn’t accurate at all, I use LiquidWeb and have a VPS… also you misspelled wp-conrig.php in your checker.

The database is fine, and it’s getting written to from what it looks like, just seems that it’s not returning the values. I have configserver firewall installed, are there any known issues with that blocking calls or whatever?

Your checker also states that: Your site may be vulnerable to spam registrations without the Apache module mod_security. I have mod_security installed and it’s working fine.

Any other thoughts?

Wait a minute, I may have found the problem … the inFocus Theme from MySitesMyWay or whatever may be the culprit … I’ll let you know more as I experiment …

Alright, one thing I found about the categories which is just stupid on my part, you have a big huge bold bright blue button that states “Add Category” at the bottom which I was thinking it was registering the information that I filled out when clicked. This past test i decided to add a description and only then noticed the smaller gray “submit” button … same with the questions … I feel stupid on that one …

I’m not sure if if tweaking mod_security or changing the theme back to a regular theme and then back to the infocus theme made the questions appear or not. inFocus now works. The calendar is now working as well using the [raw] tags.

I guess these issues are resolved and most are just from my own misfortune! 🙂

Thanks for the help – I’ve been able to resolve this and am now able to create event categories.
