We are using the single page checkout, and while everything works, we’re finding that the payment processing and ajax calls are taking a very long time.
Is there a way to detect when an ajax request is made and when there is a response, so we can tell the user not to refresh the page or click on any other links?
This is happening when moving from the form to the payment selection, and after successful payment entry via Stripe it takes a long time to redirect to the confirmation page.

Ideally though the site could be sped up to avoid the wait. May I ask is the server on PHP 7?
