WP Version – 4.1.1
EE VERSION – 3.1.37.0.P

Where do I find the Category Identifier to make this shortcode work?
For this one [EVENT_CUSTOM_VIEW category_identifier=”your-event-category-identifier”]

Thank you.

Hi,

In your WordPress site go to Event Espresso > Categories > edit a category > the Unique Category Identifier is what you need.

This is also available in the shortcode shown on the Category overview, though it is labelled event_category_id (it’s still the same ID).

Hello Dean,

I managed to get it working according to your instruction.

Would it be possible for me to hide a specific category from displaying in the event calendar, but that category will still display in a specific page when I use this shortcode [EVENT_CUSTOM_VIEW category_identifier=”your-event-category-identifier”] in that page?

Thank you.

Hi,

We currently do not have an option to exclude specific categories from the calendar, however the calendar can be used to display a single category so there is a workaround that might work for you.

Your events can have any number of categories assigned to them without causing problems, so when users need to hide specific events from the calendar we recommend creating a parent category (something like ‘Public’) to nest your events within.

So all the events you want visible would be placed within the public category, and call that category with the calendar using:

[ESPRESSO_CALENDAR event_category_id=”your_public_category_identifier”]

Any event you do not want to display on the calendar, should not be included within that category. Your normal category calls from the above shortcodes will continue to work as normal.

Does that help?

Hello,

This is how I tried to achieve the outcome as you have described.

1) Create a Parent Category for Public and a Parent Category for Private, then nest all the Child Category within each Parent Category.

– Display_Public_Event_A for events by Speaker A
– Display_Public_Event_B for events by Speaker B
– Display_Public_Event_C for events by Speaker C

– Display_Private_Event_A for events by Speaker A
– Display_Private_Event_B for events by Speaker B
– Display_Private_Event_C for events by Speaker C

2a) At the respective speaker’s personal public page inside the website, display just this person’s public category in the calendar, for example
[ESPRESSO_CALENDAR event_category_id=”Display_Public_Event_A”]

2b) At the respective speaker’s personal private page outside the website, which people receiving the link by email will know where to find, display just this person’s private category in the calendar, for example
[ESPRESSO_CALENDAR event_category_id=”Display_Private_Event_A”]

Now, where I am stuck, is how to display all 3 public categories in the website’s main calendar.

Hi, I’ve added feedback to a feature request for excluding categories from the calendar shortcode.

I’ve also created a new one to allow multiple event categories to be used at once.

Thanks

Lorenzo

Hi there,

An update for the EE4 Calendar add-on has just been released that allows you to set multiple categories on a single instance of the calendar and/or use a parent category which will load any events from child categories of the category you set on the calendar:
