Buy Tickets/View Cart Button Causing Bounce Back to Events Page

Here’s the page in question: https://www.mphstage.org/tickets/the-39-steps/

When you click on the Buy Tickets button, it changes to View Cart (which is correct), but then when you click the View Car button again it just refreshes the original Events page https://www.mphstage.org/tickets/the-39-steps/ . User needs to click the View Cart button one more time to get to the Purchase page. This issue only recently began occurring. Any help to fix would be appreciated.

Hi Joshua,

There is a JS error on that page, and it looks like it is from the Twitter widget. This may be causing the problem. Can you try removing that widget and seeing if the issue is resolved?

Nope, that did not work. Still bouncing me back to the Events page rather than the cart page. Any other suggestions?

Hi, could you double-check the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] shortcode?

That should be in use once on the site.

Be sure that it has not been replaced by another shortcode. Otherwise, you’ll run into some strange issues like what you are seeing.

The [ESPRESSO EVENTS] was also on another page that was published but not in use, I removed the code from that page and refreshed everything and it’s still giving me the same issues.

Hi,

Is that page set as the event registration page in Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Page Settings?

Someone may have switched out the shortcode by accident. That would break the registrations process.

Yep, that’s always been the event registration page since before it went live.

And nothing’s “broken.” You can still buy tickets, but clicking the View Cart button the first time refreshes the full events listing page rather than sending you to the cart. You need to click View Cart twice to get to the cart page, which is confusing users. It didn’t act like this when the site originally went live.

Ok, could you try this:

Relocate the ESPRESSO_EVENTS shortcode to this page:

https://www.mphstage.org/tickets/

The use the [EVENT_LIST] shortcode on this page:

https://www.mphstage.org/tickets/the-39-steps/

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/shortcodes-template-variables/#event-list

Then ensure that Event Espresso is set to use the /tickets/ page as the main registration page through General Settings –> Page Settings.

Nope, none of that worked. I put the site back to how it was originally. Any other suggestions?

Hi,

There are some customized templates running. I would temporarily rename them to see if the issue continues.

Can you give me a little more guidance in renaming templates? Thanks.

Hi, my prior reply had the information on the templates but they were wrapped in an HTML comment so they appeared invisible.

Here is the information without the comments:

Event Espresso Template Files:

Dir: .
Dir: ..
File: /event_list.php
File: /event_list_display.php
File: /shopping_cart.php

Renaming will temporarily deactivate them and will set Event Espresso to use its default templates:

/wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates

Try changing them by adding a .old to each file.

Then launch an alternative web browser and try testing MER again. If it works, then restore the name for one file at a time. That is, remove the .old from one filename. Then re-test.

Continue these steps until it breaks again.
